I'm here writing just after UT's first full week of school! And while I am excited for all that is ahead in my own learning as a student and in lessons as an educator, I'm also ready to continue sharing some music that I had the pleasure of performing last year!
New on the site today is Edison Denisov's Sonata for Alto Saxophone and piano. The piece was a joy to bring to life in large part thanks to Joseph Dougherty's eagerness to dive deep into the work's very unconventional treatment of time and rhythm. Much like Austin's renowned Asian-fusion tacos, this piece combines elements from contemporary classical, jazz, and folk music. This music is pointed, yet dances. Aggressive, yet introspective. There are just too many unique flavors and mixtures! Please enjoy our performance from Joseph's very own DMA recital at UT!
